The NEET Chemistry paper has 50 questions across 180 marks. The 30 chapters in the syllabus are not equally represented — never have been. A student who prepares all 30 chapters equally is spending the same time on a chapter that appears twice every year as on one that hasn't appeared in five. The most important chemistry chapters for neet 2027 — and the high weightage chemistry chapters for neet 2027 — listed here are ranked by a simple measure: how often has each chapter contributed to the paper over the last 15 years, and how many marks did it reliably deliver?
This analysis is based on 15 years of NEET and AIPMT papers. It is not a prediction — NTA can always shift its emphasis — but the historical pattern is stable enough that the top 10 chapters have consistently produced 100 or more marks per paper. Starting with those is the rational choice for any student with a limited timeline.
How to Read a Chapter Priority List
Two things determine a chapter's real priority: its average marks yield over recent years, and the time required to reach an answerable level. A chapter that yields 4 marks and takes two weeks to learn properly is a better investment than a chapter that yields 6 marks but takes eight weeks. The NEET 2027 chemistry chapter-wise weightage data below gives you the first number; the difficulty estimate and teaching notes give you the second.
Three categories are worth separating:
- High yield, manageable difficulty — these go first and get the most time. Scoring chemistry chapters for NEET 2027 — and the easiest chemistry chapters for NEET 2027 to convert quickly into marks — include Coordination Compounds, Chemical Bonding, Aldehydes and Ketones, and Electrochemistry.
- High yield, high difficulty — these need early starts and cannot be skipped. Thermodynamics and Equilibrium sit here.
- Low yield, low difficulty — these are the easiest chemistry chapters for NEET and are worth covering in the revision phase rather than the learning phase. Environmental Chemistry, Chemistry in Everyday Life, and Polymers fall here.

Important Physical Chemistry Chapters for NEET 2027
Physical Chemistry contributes roughly 35–40% of the Chemistry paper each year. The important physical chemistry chapters for NEET 2027 divide neatly between Class 11 and Class 12, and many students make the mistake of preparing the Class 12 chapters well while neglecting the Class 11 foundation.
Mole Concept — The Gateway Chapter
Everything in Physical Chemistry that involves a number passes through Mole Concept. It appears directly in 1–2 questions per paper and indirectly underpins Electrochemistry, Solutions, and Chemical Kinetics calculations. A student with a shaky Mole Concept will find every Physical numerical harder than it should be. This is the first chapter I teach and the one I spend the most time on in the first month.
Thermodynamics — High Yield, High Difficulty
Thermodynamics appears in almost every NEET paper with 2–3 questions, consistently testing Gibbs Free Energy, entropy changes, and enthalpy calculations. The chapter looks manageable until the questions start combining concepts — Hess's Law with bond enthalpy with entropy sign — and a student who memorised formulas without understanding the system will get trapped. The chapter needs two weeks of solid teaching, and it rewards students who understand it rather than those who try to shortcut it.
Equilibrium — Two Chapters in One
Chemical and Ionic Equilibrium together cover 2–3 questions most years. Ionic Equilibrium (buffer calculations, pH, hydrolysis) is the harder half and the one students skip when time runs short — which is exactly when NEET tests it. For NEET 2027 chemistry preparation strategy, Equilibrium should be finished before October for a 2027 aspirant. Leaving it to March creates a backlog that compresses every other chapter behind it.
Electrochemistry and Chemical Kinetics
Both are Class 12 chapters with a consistent 2-question yield each. Electrochemistry questions at NEET level typically test Nernst equation, Faraday's law, and conductance. Chemical Kinetics tests rate laws, integrated rate equations, and half-life. Both chapters are numerical-heavy and respond well to the approximation techniques I teach for Physical Chemistry — a student who can estimate an Electrochemistry answer in 30 seconds leaves more time for the Organic questions that take longer.
Important Organic Chemistry Chapters for NEET 2027
Organic Chemistry makes up 35–40% of the Chemistry paper and has the highest variance of the three sections. A student who has understood the mechanisms can do well; a student who has memorised outcomes will fail on any question that changes one functional group. The important organic chemistry chapters for NEET 2027 share a single underlying logic: electron flow determines the product.
GOC — The Entire Foundation
General Organic Chemistry is where the investment pays off across every other Organic chapter. Inductive effect, Resonance, Hyperconjugation, and stability of carbocations and carbanions explain most of what happens in the rest of Organic Chemistry. I teach GOC for three full weeks at the start of Organic and do not move to functional groups until the student can apply these effects to an unfamiliar molecule. That investment reduces the time needed for every subsequent chapter.
Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylic Acids
This chapter group is the single highest-yield organic chapter in recent NEET papers, contributing 3–4 questions in most years. It includes Nucleophilic Addition, Aldol and Cannizzaro reactions, oxidation patterns, and acidity comparisons. Students who have studied GOC properly find this chapter intuitive; students who skipped GOC find it a collection of disconnected outcomes to memorise. The former approach is faster and more durable.
Haloalkanes and Haloarenes
SN1, SN2, and elimination reactions are the core of this chapter. NTA tests them through mechanism questions, stereochemistry predictions, and rate comparisons. The chapter yields 1–2 questions consistently and is considered one of the scoring chemistry chapters for NEET when studied with the reaction mechanisms rather than outcome lists.
A Note From S.K. Sir:
The neet chemistry important topics from NCERT that students consistently underestimate are in Organic. The NCERT Organic chapters are not detailed — they give you the reactions and some explanation, and leave the mechanism to be understood. Many students read those pages and think they've learned the chapter. They've read it. Reading and learning are different things in Organic Chemistry. Learning means you can predict a product before you see the answer. That's the test I use, and it's the test NEET uses.
Important Inorganic Chemistry Chapters for NEET 2027
Inorganic Chemistry carries 20–25% of the paper and is often described as "pure memorisation." That is partly true and mostly unhelpful. The important inorganic chemistry chapters for NEET 2027 are best understood through Periodic Trends, which derives most of the p-block and d-block behaviour from a few underlying principles.
Chemical Bonding — The Most Important Single Chapter
Across 15 years of NEET papers, Chemical Bonding appears in virtually every paper with 2–3 questions. VSEPR, hybridisation, molecular orbital theory, and bond angle comparisons are the recurring subtopics. The chapter bridges Physical and Inorganic Chemistry and directly supports understanding of Organic Chemistry electronic effects. A student who is solid on Chemical Bonding answers 6–8 marks worth of questions with confidence and gains support in every other section.
Coordination Compounds — Single Highest-Yield Chapter
With a consistent 3 questions in most years, Coordination Compounds is the chapter with the most predictable yield in all of NEET Chemistry. Crystal Field Theory, Isomerism in coordination compounds, and IUPAC naming are the repeated subtopics. The chapter is teachable to a high level of accuracy in three to four weeks when built on a proper Chemical Bonding foundation. I place it late in the Inorganic sequence so that the foundation chapters support it, but I allocate it proportionally more practice problems than any other Inorganic chapter.
p-Block Elements
The p-Block spans Class 11 and Class 12 and yields 2–3 questions per paper. It is the chapter where understanding Periodic Trends pays off most directly — the anomalous behaviour of the second-period elements (N, O, F) is the most common testing point, and it is derivable from atomic size and electronegativity rather than needing separate memorisation for each element. The exceptions that genuinely must be memorised are a small set, and I name them explicitly rather than leaving students to guess which part of the chapter needs memory and which part needs reasoning.
Class 11 Chemistry Important Chapters for NEET 2027
Class 11 chapters account for approximately 40–45% of the NEET Chemistry paper. This surprises many students who assumed the exam was weighted toward Class 12. The class 11 chemistry important chapters for NEET 2027 are: Mole Concept, Chemical Bonding, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox Reactions, GOC, Hydrocarbons, s-Block, and p-Block (Groups 13–14). Of these, Chemical Bonding, Thermodynamics, and Equilibrium carry the most marks.
The common failure mode for Class 12 students is treating Class 11 as "already done." A Class 11 chapter studied 12 months ago without revision will not perform under pressure. The chapter wise chemistry preparation for NEET 2027 I recommend explicitly schedules Class 11 revision during Class 12 — not as a separate preparation but woven into the Class 12 teaching sequence.
Class 12 Chemistry Important Chapters for NEET 2027
The class 12 chemistry important chapters for NEET 2027 are concentrated in five chapters that deliver the bulk of the marks: Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Aldehydes/Ketones/Carboxylic Acids, and Amines. Together these five chapters have historically delivered 35–40 marks per paper.
The remaining Class 12 chapters — Solid State, Solutions, Haloalkanes, Polymers, Biomolecules, Chemistry in Everyday Life — contribute a further 20–25 marks in total. They are not dispensable, but they should not displace preparation time from the five chapters above.
NEET 2027 Chemistry Study Plan
A NEET 2027 chemistry study plan built around the priority list above follows four phases. This is the same structure I use in the full programme.
Phase 1 — Foundation (months 1–3): Mole Concept, Chemical Bonding, and GOC. These three chapters underpin everything else and are taught without rushing. A student who finishes this phase well has the conceptual vocabulary for the remaining syllabus.
Phase 2 — Core Chapters (months 4–8): Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Electrochemistry, Chemical Kinetics, Coordination Compounds, Aldehydes/Ketones/Carboxylic Acids, Haloalkanes, Amines, p-Block (both classes). This is the dense middle of the preparation where the majority of marks are built.
Phase 3 — Completion and Integration (months 9–11): Remaining chapters, full-syllabus mock tests started, chapter-level test analysis running weekly. The best chemistry chapters to study first for NEET 2027 are already solid; this phase fills the gaps and begins to connect the sections.
Phase 4 — Revision and Simulation (last 6 weeks): No new content. Full mock papers, timed section practice, PYQ analysis by chapter, targeted revision of the two or three chapters where mock tests show persistent loss.
The complete NEET 2027 chemistry syllabus and important topics guide with phase-by-phase detail is in this article, and the chapter sequencing within each phase is described in this one.
Using Previous Year Questions Chapter-Wise
Previous year NEET questions (PYQs) are the single most honest signal of what NTA tests. Every chapter in the priority list above was ranked using exactly this data. For NEET 2027 aspirants, PYQs serve two different purposes depending on where you are in the preparation cycle.
In Phases 1 and 2, PYQs work as comprehension checks. After finishing a chapter, you should be able to solve every PYQ from that chapter across the last ten years with conceptual reasoning — not answer key matching. If you cannot, something in the chapter foundation is missing and needs to be addressed before moving on. This is where most coaching programmes fail: they move the student forward by schedule rather than by comprehension. I do not.
In Phases 3 and 4, PYQs shift into a revision and timing tool. A chapter that felt solid in Phase 2 may still carry a two or three question gap when tested under paper conditions — timed, mixed with other sections, without the chapter heading visible. Chapter-wise PYQ sets taken under those conditions give you an accuracy rate per chapter that a chapter summary cannot. Students who track this systematically going into the last six weeks arrive at NEET day knowing exactly which chapters they can afford to skip in the final review and which need one more pass.
The NEET 2027 chemistry chapter wise weightage table earlier in this article maps directly onto PYQ volume. High-weightage chapters have more past questions and more practice available — which means a student who finishes them early has more opportunities to build speed and accuracy before the exam. That is another reason to prioritise them first, and to stay with them in the revision phase rather than treating them as done once covered in class.
On the question of the best chemistry teacher for NEET 2027: the chapter priority list is the starting point, but a plan without feedback is guesswork with a schedule attached to it. The difference between a good generic plan and a useful one is knowing which chapters a particular student is actually weak in right now, which the plan cannot tell you and only test analysis can. Every student who joins this programme gets a chapter-by-chapter diagnostic in the first two weeks, and the plan is adjusted accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which is the single most important chapter in NEET Chemistry?
Across 15 years of NEET papers, Chemical Bonding and Coordination Compounds have the highest combined consistency. Coordination Compounds alone yields 2–3 questions almost every year. Chemical Bonding is a close second and underpins both Organic and Inorganic understanding. If you could study only two chapters, these are the ones.
How much of NEET Chemistry comes from Class 11?
Roughly 40–45 marks out of 180 come from Class 11 chapters, with Chemical Bonding, Mole Concept, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium and GOC being the primary contributors. Many students underestimate Class 11 and pay for it in the paper.
Is it possible to score 150+ in NEET Chemistry without finishing the entire syllabus?
Yes. The top 15 chapters by historical weightage cover around 140–150 marks consistently. A student who masters those 15 chapters thoroughly and attempts the remaining questions by elimination can reach 150+ without touching every chapter in the syllabus. This is not a strategy I recommend as a first plan, but it is accurate as a rescue option.
Are easiest chemistry chapters for NEET also the ones with the most questions?
Not always. Biomolecules and Polymers are relatively straightforward and yield 2–3 questions. Environmental Chemistry is easy but low-yield. The higher-difficulty chapters — Coordination Compounds, Electrochemistry — also carry high weightage. The priority list should be built on the combination of weightage and difficulty, not either alone.
How often does NEET repeat previous year questions?
Approximately 25–30% of NEET Chemistry questions in any given year are either direct repeats or close conceptual variants of questions from the previous 10 years. This makes PYQ analysis one of the highest-return study activities for NEET Chemistry.
How do I get a study plan built around my current weak chapters?
Use the contact form at chemistryforneet.com/contact.php. The free demo class includes a short diagnostic discussion of where you are on each section, and the study sequence is adjusted accordingly. A generic plan is better than no plan; a personalised one is better than either.
